The Village of Roseville, located along the Muskingum-Perry County line in Southeastern Ohio, is famous for its long history of pottery production. Disposal practices historically were not monitored or documented. Disposal of waste glaze material that contained potentially high levels of lead commonly occurred with the disposal of "off-spec" pottery waste. This historic and unregulated disposal method allowed for an undetermined amount of lead-based glaze material to be disposed of sporadically throughout the village.
The Village and the U.S. EPA have cleaned up multiple properties throughout Roseville already, including Brush Pottery, Ungemach Pottery, Hull Pottery, Friendship Pottery, the American Legion Trailer Park, and Roseville Primary School.
The Ohio EPA and Ohio Department of Health are working with the Village of Roseville to test, and remediate, private resident
’
s properties that may contain elevated lead(Pb) levels, due to the history of the Village and their pottery making and disposal practices.
Now every resident will have the opportunity to get their own yard tested for lead(Pb), and remediated if elevated levels are detected.
The Village of Roseville has HEPA vacuums and Lead(Pb) cleaning kits available to residents to borrow. Contact the Village of Roseville to acquire these resources.
